S.O.S.  Shoot on sight.  I know I no longer have a squirrel problem or a chipmunk problem or a raccoon problem.  My vultures are gettin fat too.

ratdog:  They are not big enough to mess with.  They are no bigger than a Gerbil.  Tiny little things, that likes to get into the engine compartment insulation on Diesel trucks.  We declared war against them around here five years ago.  I keep a pellet gun handy, and shoot them on sight.  I sometimes get three of four a day.  If I shoot one with the .17HMR, there is usually nothing left but a tail and head.  They got into my shed last winter, and ruined four foam mattresses.

I set a #1 trap under a tree in the yard(Trap for Muskrats).  A Red Squirrel came and sat on the pan.  It set there eating a pine cone.  Left and came back twice.  On the third time it sat on the pan, the trap finally sprung.

What kind of squirrels are they that are so small? The chipmunks around here are about that size and the gray squirrels sure are a lot bigger.

We had a small squirrel problem this spring.
They kept falling in our pool and drowning. :-\
Float around into the filter and plug it up. :(
That will flat slow down the filtration process...... :P :o ;D

I was raised eating squirrels. Unless they are a lot smaller than the ones I grew up around theres plenty to eat there. We like em fried with mashed taters and gravy, older tough ones are great covered in saurkraut. Good bbqed, I occasionally pop one on the grill whole. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

powderman:  I too was raised eating those big Gray Squirrels back in Tennessee.  They were much bigger than the little Red Squirrel we have up here in Alaska.  Like I said before they are not big enough to use for eating, unless you are desperate.  No bigger than a Chipmunk.  Pretty red color, but a small animal.

Why are the squirrels doing it? Are the bears taking some time off?

We have way too many of those red squirrels here in central NH too. It's open season all year but like Sourdough said they're too small to eat so nobody bothers hunting them. Everyone I know shoots them on sight if they see them in their yard.
