357 mag
« on: January 04, 2004, 06:46:17 AM »
I am new to loading for 357 mag. I purchased a set of dies yesterday. The only bullets that the shop had at the time was 148gr lswc.
I have been unable to find anything listing a correct overall length for this bullet in 357 mag.
My secound problem is that I only have three powders to work with at this time. They are Blue Dot, H110, and Accurate #5.

I really want to get to my bench. Please help.

the accurate book list a 150 gr lswc and 7.6 gr of AA#5 for 1096 FPS. Lyman list  a 150 gr LSWC and 8.2 gr of blue dot for 950 FPS....these are both starting loads. Hope this helps some
Lyman is a 4" barrel and Accurate is a 6" tube.

Thank's! I'll load some of both and give it a go.

american,
The first thing you need for reloading is at least two good reloading manuals. Preferably published by the manufacturer of the bullets you are using. The loads magyars4 gave you are a good place to start. The OAL for this bullet/round is not critical, somewhere in the 1.560-1.580 range.
Enjoy your .357!!  By the way, you can load some interesting loads with the H-110 and 110/125 JHPs!!!

savage,
Thanks for the oal info.  I was looking for 125 jhp bullets, but the local shop was out and I just couldn't resist buying the only 357 bullets he had left on the shelf when I purchased the die set.
I do fully intend to see what H110 will do in 357. I had a blast with it in 45 colt. :-)
