Hern iron works
« on: September 01, 2011, 05:29:20 PM »
I'm looking at the full size howitzer from hern.  Has anyone ever dealt with them?  It doesnt look like the touch holes are done yet and i want to use a musket cap-cannon lock ignition w/lanyard   Are they lined with seamless tubes or just cast?   If not, who could line it with a 1/4" wall rifled liner to bring it down to 1  3/4" and what would the lining job cost?

Thanks, joe

I'm planning on building the carriage from plans they have as well.

A number of people on here have dealt with them.  I recommend you call them if you have specific questions, as they were helpful when I called them.  Yes, it comes lined, however the liner is not rifled.  You do have to drill the vent, but that's not really much of a problem (recommend a carbide bit for going through the liner).  You should be able to mount whatever lock you want on it, or just use it with a linstock.
