Great Ammo
« on: May 25, 2011, 07:23:28 AM »
In getting ready for a prairie dog shoot last week I bought some HSM brand 223 50gr ammo. This stuff out shoots anything I have used in my 14" SS TC barrel. At 200 yards I got 0.80" 5 shot groups. I have shot all the major brands of varmint ammo (Black Hills, Hornady, Nosler, Remington, and several others that don't come to mind). They work equally well in a friends Remington 700. I have reloaded for over 30 years and feel I know a few tricks for loading accurate ammo, but this stuff really performs!
I have just ordered another thousand rounds and will let my Dillon 550b rest for a while.

Edit to note I purchased mine from Cabelas.
I was not born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could.

Good to know. I dont load 223, too small. Ammo cost is still reasonable [sort of].

I've used HSM for longer than I want to admit. It's always been high quality, consistent and not as costy as many other offerings.
good stuff

I bought most of it at gun shows, back in the day when you could get deals on ammo at gun shows.  :-\
I think Midway and Cabellas carry it now, probably others as well.

Hafast is it the 50 gr. DHP that you got such great groups with? I have used HSM in my 30/06 and obtained terrific accuracy with it but haven't tried it with my .223.  I'll have to try it out. Do you happen to know what the velocity is on the 50 grainers ?
