For 2012 I plan on getting a .44 mag Smith in an "N" frame and a .32 mag. (hopefully--long might be a compromise), in a 6 inch---frame is yet to be determined.
I also would not mind a "N" framed .41 mag in 5/6 inch if I can find it for the RIGHT price.

With regard to the 32 mag , maybe a 327 fed mag. would be nice as it eats most any 32 ammo. that fits the chamber.

This old 29-1 has traveled with me for most of 50 years. The .44 Mag is a very good handgun choice.

You can scratch the .44 mag---I shot Jim Fox's today and remember how much I didn't  like shooting the .44 mag.
Well, now, I do like guns---yessiree.
I have done a lot, over the years with automatics and enjoyed the process, the builds and experimenting with my thoughts and ideas.
It is not like these revolvers are NEW, Heck I have a long history with Rugers and Colts in revolvers.
Those beginning days were like a kid with a new baseball glove--he don't know much about it but it sure is fun.
I bought the model 28 on a whim---I am president of the world wide church of impulse buying.
I have just tried to reign in the impulses and try and concentrate on some kind of coordinated attack plan instead of the clusterf plan.
These are plans---as you can read--I have already changed a portion of the plan. I KNEW all along that the .44 mag was a bad idea for me---but I almost had myownself convinced that I could make me like it------WRONG.
Heck--Streak, you got to do something or the monotony will kill you----leastwise that's my excuse and I'm stickin to it.

Yeah William,
Monotony will get old, that is why I have a .357 Secrity Six, .44Mag Mod 629, and a whole stable  full of Contender barrels, and .36, .44,.45,.50,.54 caliber blackpowder pistols!
So I can keep myself pretty well occupied shooting pistols.
 
So now that the .44 is out of the picture, what`s next??

What's wrong with the 29/629? My 29 is pretty sweet with 44spl level loads while retaining magnum capability. Love the balance of the 4" "N" frame! Of course the "K" frame is pretty sweet too. Just broke out my old mdl 19 for a little IDPA duty. Bill Jordan would be proud!

   Mr. William, before you scratch the 44. try some .44 spls. with 7 or 8 grain of unique..I use a lot of 210 Rem. bulk stuff...pleasant, and one can step up to heavy stuff, if you ever need it...I seldom do, except when fishing in Northern Wy. or Mt.

Maybe the 29 is to William like a Glock is to me . Don't like them but have one anyway.

HUMMM---I just don't care for the recoil on the .44mag---well I shot near a box of it up at Fox's place in Zavalla---down at the end of the dirt road and did OK with it---just don't like it though.
The .44 might be ok but I am truely enamored with the .41---real fun shooter. I think, before I would explore the .44, I would get a .41 mage iwth a 5 or 6 inch barrel.
I am going to concentrate on a .32until I can see that I can't afford one with a 5/6 inch barrel.
I still wonder if the factory could do one --or-- put a 5 inch barrel on the "A" frame .327---maybe a 4"--unported.
I know---I won't know til I call.

I have a smith 16-4 in 32 h& r mag. It's a k frame, 6" barrel with the full lug under the barrel. Wonderful shooter. With you liking heavy guns you should look for one of those. Plan to spend about a thousand + or - for a like new example.

Every time I hear someone talking about the noise and recoil from the .44 mag I think about an incident that happened 15-20 years ago at the local range.  I had taken off work one day and gone to the range to sight in a rifle I had just replaced the scope on before deer season.  I threw a couple of pistols in the truck that I wanted to shoot too. One was a Contender Super 14 in .44 mag that I had just put a new Burris scope on.  I had fired the rifle and moved over to the pistol side of the range.  There was a young lady; maybe around 25 years old shooting a pistol, she and I were the only ones on the range.  I got a target and asked if I could go down and put it up, she cleared her gun and walked down to look at her target as I was doing it.  Walking back she passed by my bench and saw the Contender laying there.  She asked what it was, I told her, and she gave an approving nod then went back to her station.  I shot a few rounds sitting then dropped down to prone and popped off a few more.  When I stopped and stood up she came over and asked if she could fire the gun, I agreed, gave her a short lesson on how the gun functioned, she dropped down in the prone position, I loaded and handed the gun down to her.  She placed the gun on the rest and let one go, the recoil drove the gun back and the top of the scope hit her between the eyes splitting her wide open.  I couldn’t stop the bleeding so ended up taking her to the hospital emergency room for stitches.  After about two hours we walked out and headed back to the range to her car.  Even after all this she asked if she could shoot the gun again sometimes.  I never seen her again but I think she would have taken another try provided the opportunity.

Boys if I had been 20 years younger I would have contacted her for another try, not only was she young and beautiful……….she liked guns.  What more could a man ask for?

The noise and recoil--well the noise doesn't bother me---the recoil is something I can manage it just is not fun to do so + the thing is heavy.
Now---I am weaker than I am scared of it.
