When I get to my spot in the morning I slam my truck door. They can hear that about 200yds away and will gobble back.

That one brought back some memories for me. We used to do that back when not many people turkey hunted and it would work. I bet I have not heard a turkey gobble at a slammed door in 25 years. In fact, you can give them a case of "shut mouth" now if you try it around here.

I use my mouth to owl hoot, but for commercial calls I have had pretty good luck with a Knight & Hale. If they are going to gobble at an owl call, I don't think it matters too much how it sounds really.

My son and I both use Primos "Hoot Flute". It works great, is very easy to use. We often get Tom's to shock gobble, well up into the day and when they've gone silent, with one. We never go turkey hunting without one. :)

+ 1 on the Knight and Hale, they have the best sounding hoot tube I've used. To be honest I've never had a turkey respond to any owl calls though. :-\

Really? Dang we get turkeys to shock gobble all the time with an owl hoot. One year the turkeys were just dead silent well into the morning. Around about 10:30 am just out of desperation we hit one of our owl hoots. Gobblers started sounding off all around us and we set up and scored a double when my son was able to call them in. They came in silent to the call though and only gobbled at the owl hoot.

I have found the best time to get em to respond to an owl call is while they are still on their roost, before it gets light.  I use the owl call to locate the roost, then hoof it to the approximate location, and get set up before they fly down.  Works well here in PA.

It must just be the person behind the call, but I have hooted many many times and never had one bird repsond, even when I know turkeys are in the area.????? I have listened to just about every owl sound I can find, had others to listen to a comparison between me and the recording, ??? Never had one bird to gobble at me using an owl call or a crow call either.

That is rather odd. It is not really so much the call itself as it is simply a loud noise. I've heard turkeys gobble at the sound of someone yelling loud. Turkeys will even gobble at thunder. You might try a crow call instead.

I've always used a peecock call and this usually gets them to gobble. Even the coyotes when they howl in the morning or night.

What do you know, I did have one gobble at my owl call this weekend.(I listened to him roost the night before, and got within 150yards of him the next morning. I hooted to try and get him to gobble just to make sure he was still there, and sure enough, he gobbled twice at my hooting. He presented a shot later that morning and I missed.)

In Oklahoma we learned to hoot like a Bared Owl with just our mouths when we were little kids.
