I didn't make the finalists, but I was in the running for a while.

Don't know why the gap between the blade and the guard on a lot of them, I don't like that. I have 2 bowie types but want one with a more pointed blade like several of those shown. Wish I could afford to buy a couple of them. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

You're welcome. I like most kinds of knives but have always been partial to the big bowie types. I carried one in the woods for a lot of years mainly to cut walking sticks. My heart won't let me go as much as I want anymore. I don't care for  knives made to look at. If its not a working knife I don't have much use for it. A lot of fancy knives are pretty but no real appeal to me. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

There are some extreme artistans building  creating knives these days.  Can't even imagine the amount of time and skill required to build one of these knives.  Gotta admit I go for the simpler designs.

I find the sheath examples just as interesting as the knives.

Just ordered some sheath-making materials and am gonna try my hand at putting together some leather for one of my knives.

I'm new and learning about Damascus blades but several of those blades are far beyond anything I've seen yet. I was wondering how well some of those patterns would hold up to real use, both edge keeping and general hard use. Sure would be fun to have just one for lookin' at I think.  But it'd probably end up under the wood stove making kindling - maybe not if I saw the price tags.

Dand...

I think you just defined the difference between "want" and "need".  I'd love to have my choice of those Bowies...but more as a piece of  American art and heritage.  Doubt I'd carry it much because its way more blade than necessary for hunting and butchering, and thats what I use my knives for.

What I really "need" is that blade for splitting kindling you mentioned shoved up under the woodstove.   ;D
