Throw away guns.
« on: July 12, 2011, 02:48:34 PM »
I was wondering about keeping a couple of old junkers around to let authorities confiscate in a Katrina like emergency.

Some die hards might not like this strategy but if the authorities bug off it might be worth it.

I was thinking the same thing.

What like a couple of Glocks, and a Remington 700? ;D

The thought has occured to me as well. Also thought about running a classified ad and selling them all. ;)  Dang things are dangerous after all.

Three or four garage sale clunkers. Heck , they might not even have to function.

Junkers are good to have on a rack on the wall, in case of a burglary.  If they are in a hurry, and do a grab-n-go, they will happily grab them up and be gone, perhaps without trying to spend more time trying to break into a gun safe.

  Just a thought.

Bait guns  ;)
Don't give them a reason to look in the first place . If you keep them out of sight they have no reason to look .

I would consider anything made by Taurus, Traditions, or CVA to be a throw away gun.

  Shootall,

Once they have broken into your house, they are gonna know in just a minute or so that you are a gun owner, whether you have a few on the wall or not, and they are going to tear the place apart looking for them.

Unless of course you keep your entire place sanitized, including having no hunting or shooting magazines or catalogs anywhere, and no trophies on the wall, and no reloading equipment or supplies in view, and no ammo boxes, and no head muffs lying around, and no cleaning equipment, etc. etc.

And, about 80% of American households have a gun in them  anway, so they always look for them first.

So, I say, give them a couple of junk guns (with firing pins removed).  Once they try to pawn those, they will never come back.  :-)

I got to watch film of the aftermath in Fl. when a huricane went thru. It was police tape . It showed them taking every gun they saw out in the open. There was a problem in La. with taking guns but the NRA went to court and won that case. So one can hope that won't happen again.
Why would police break in your home if you were not doing something you should not be doing ? Unless its to see if you are alive ? And if you are why didn't you meet them at the door ?
That said some cops may be crooked . Makes one consider off site storage

It was illegal and unconstitutional in Florida and in New Orleans. What makes you think the cops will follow the new laws?

In FL it wasn't always illegal as they were out in public with their guns in the open in some cases , reason for the tape was to train what was legal and not. In La it was illegal for sure.
I would guess in places where police officals are not afraid of the citizens and are there to work with them they won't take them on the other hand in liberal cities where the officals have used and abused the citizens they may feel a need to take them.
I know its not pratical but wouldn't it be nice if all the non liberals moved out of the liberal cities and let them rot in their own waste .

I almost think it would be cool to keep an old clunker 9mm around.  Now for this to work you'd have to make DANGED sure to NEVER fire the gun yourself.  Push a bullet about halfway up the barrel.  Load a couple of hot 9mm rounds in a mag and leave it there for the burglars to find.  Sometime the next day, the police should have a good lead at the local hospital.  Just tell them, it was an accident, must have been a squib load or something like that...

I practice the same philosophy with my pickup gun. It stays behind the seat all the time. Oftentimes the truck isn't locked, but so far I've never had a gun stolen from me. I used to keep some fairly nice guns behind the seat, but lately have come to think that a handi rifle is the perfect rifle for a gun that is in jeprody.

Real bad idea. What if you suddenly pass and the gun is given to a friend or relative who decides to shoot it knowing how well you take care of your guns there is no reason to disassemble it and check it out boom, next thing you know they are there with you!

I would worry more about a fire , med emg break in or such where police or firemen come in and see what you have . If they come to take your weapons I would bet they bring metal detectors and other tools to serch your home. Better to vote in those who protect our rights. Than to set up dekes

That's one of the reasons that I wrote "I almost think..."

It sounds good but isn't a great idea for several reasons.

Not a bad idea to have a few decoys around ...... but I always encourage gun owners to have PVC cache tubes on hand .... if not assembled, at least the component parts ...... if you don't know what I'm talking about, look at a few UTubes .......
PS   Don't plan on burying them in your backyard

I read an interesting idea related to this once...

A guy hung a nice looking (but disabled) revolver on the wall where it couldn't be seen from the outside, but could be seen as soon as he or a family member came in the door. He figured that it would be the first item a crook would grab, so if it was gone when the door was opened they would assume that a burglary was in progress and back out of the house.
