Re: huntsman question
« on: August 31, 2011, 07:35:30 AM »
I just got one of those older ones in a trade, 58 cal.  Didn't inspect it much, just noticed the huge firing pin.  I thought I would use the receiver on my Versa barrel, and just file down the end of the pin.  The frames are noticeably different and incompatible with modern SB1 or 2.  This one has an exposed cap nipple for a #11 cap, and requires a wierd wrench to remove the plug...I'll have to fabricate one of those I guess.

The one on the left.  I bought this gun for a "parts" gun, but I won't be able to use it as such.  I'm going to remove  the breechplug and see how everything looks, and I may go ahead and restore it.  The stocks are nice, but most of the blueing is gone from the barrel, and the front sight is missing.  A little play in the latch, but nothing a wire welder and file won't fix.  I assume it once had a barrel band around the front of the fore stock, and this is gone.  If all else fails,  the stocks are usable to me anyway.

If it's the one on the left you don't need a wrench it is a pop out style ;)  Kurt
