Stevens 200 Discontinued?
« on: July 05, 2011, 05:55:21 PM »
I've heard rumors that the Stevens 200 has been discontinued. Is this true? If so, does anybody know about how much longer they are going to be available? I would love to buy one new in .223 Rem.

Thanks,

Why?  I have experience with two of them and they are an extremely accurate, no frills rifle rite out of the box.

the axis /edge just doesnt do it for me . the last thing that seemed that bad to me was the remmy 710. eiter rifle i wouldnt pay for but woulnt turn down for free.the stevens 200 was the best entry level rifle to begin with. they should have tried a couple improvements with the 200 to keep pace with the marlin.this is just my opnion.

Again, I must disagree with you.  Yes, the Remy 710 is trully a POS.  The bolt is terrible.  But to compare the axis as like the 710 is like comparing apples to oranges. The bolt on the 710 is freaking rough as hec.  The axis bolt is like butter.  The 710 doesnt have a floating barrel. The axis does. They both have bad triggers out of the box.  The 710 can be adjusted and the axis can have the spring clipped or a replacement trigger all together.

At the end of the day, the axis, Stevens, and especially the 710 IS NOT a Savage model 11 or 12 not a remmy 700, nor a Winny 70.  But the axis and stevens are shooters.  Hec the 710 shot decent, but the bolt was too much for me.  Well, the stevens is in fact a model 11 minus the accutrigger.

The only real drawback I see about the axis is that you really cannot do much with aftermarket parts outside of a trigger.  Stocks are not an option seeing how the barrel lug is in the stock and not attached to the action.  If a person is wanting to do some customization, the Axis IS NOT for them. However, if a person is looking for a basic, lightweight, extremely accurate rifle to shoot, then they should take a lONG LOOK at the Axis.
It's all a hot mess...........

guess we will disagree then. but hey we cant all be the same.got a buddy who has a 27 0 and it shoots pretty well once u get past that bolt lol. i think thev 710 is good for somebody maybe using a rifle  5 or 6 times a year. i decided i wanted something i didnt have to baby the wood on too. i ended up buying a used 110. i think i am further ahead that way

Frequently in test reports on budget rifles the 770 Remington is the most accurate of the 6-8 rifles tested.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It sounds like I might be able to buy a new Stevens 200 in .223 for some time to come yet.

I sure hope they don't discontinue the 200.  It's arguably the best starting point for a rebarrel/ wildcat bolt action project.  They are just like the older pre acu trigger Savages.  If you are going to rebarrel, re stock and re trigger a rifle, it only makes sense to start with a good action and a low dollar buy in.  There are plenty of oportunities to spend the rest of your money on a project like that  ;D .  The Savage/ Stevens action is the easiest bolt gun to rebarrel.  I'd hate to see the entry level go away.

mine is about 12 years old. it is the bull barrell model. i bought it used 2 years ago my buddy with his harris bi pod and hand loads with a bushy elite was getting half inch at 100.i bought it put a bsa contender on and with no bi pod and winny white box 45 grain get a 1.25 at 100.with a bipod and a better scope i could get it to a inch. my friend is a better shot then me.had my daugther shot it and she got  an inch group. shes a real good shot.i have heard horror stores about 3 to 4 inch groups with handis but not this one .bought a used banner 6x18x50 to put on it but it never held zero.thats what happens when u e bay itis a crab shoot.

I went to the gun store to order a Stevens 200 in .223 last week. When I went to the store earlier today to pick it up, the owner told me that he couldn't get one. All of the distributors that he buys from here in the northeast said that it's been discontinued. I don't know if they meant the Stevens 200 in .223 or the Stevens 200 itself.

Anyone know what's going on?

I just went to the Savage/Stevens web sight.  They show it as available.  Maybe the 223 has been selling well for a while and there just aren't any in the pipeline.  Some guys think that 'if I can't find it, it must not be there'.

If you are really hankering for one right now maybe try Bud's online or gunbroker
