150 grain Federal Hi-Shock SP for .308
« on: September 02, 2011, 06:59:19 AM »
I bought a box of these and haven't shot them yet in my encore pistol. My .243 seems to really like the 100 grain Federal SP's, I was wanting to see if anyone has any luck with the 150 grain .308's.
Thanks,
Chris Kiefner

that is just what I shoot in my 15". I think the twist rate and the 150gr. are made for each other.

this is at 150yr off a sand bag on a camera tri-pod. the groups have got better (not a whole lot better) but I didn't have any pics of those.

I shot it today and I think that it likes it! I am hoping for a few good shots at deer with it this fall.

Yea I am hoping my girl gets one in her cross hairs too. I don't think I would try a deer at 300yr. but with a hold over to here the cross hairs get thick she will bust a gallon water jug, never put her on paper at that far. The range I shoot at is not made where we can put targets up at 300yr., but there is most times a gong on it, but for some reason it was down so I put a water jug up and it busted the jug. but still think that is just to far to make a good clean kill shot. I am going to keep it under 150 well I hope I keep it under 100. Best of luck to you, I pray you get a big one with her. If so post pics...

BTW that was off my sandbag tri-pod setup that I plan to use deer season. that is why I didn't use a table with a bag. trying to make it as close to the way I am going to hunt as I can

I was sitting with it resting on my knee's and still grouped pretty good. I have a buddy from work that has a gong at 215 and we were nailing it everytime with my .243. I was shooting the corlokts but I had a few misfires from four different boxes from four different retail establishments. Shame because they did group pretty good. No misfires with winchester or federals. Federals have shot the best so far in the .308 and .243.
I am going to be pretty patient this year and not take any really far shots. I have shot it about 120 times with both calibers. I am glad the recoil is not as bad as I was led to believe. Next year I want to get something bigger. Either a .460 or .30-06.
