« on: August 29, 2011, 05:59:48 PM »
Anyone have any experience good, Bad, or otherwise with swift optics. I'm looking at a 1.25X4 to put on a S&W model 41.

Jim,

The Swift Premier line of scopes are really nice riflescopes. I have bought 6 of them and given a couple to friends, we all liked them. They are really close to the optics of the VX11 maybe just a hair better.  ;)  I also have used the standard Swift, It was not quite as good but for the price and warnity very nice indeed.

I don't know how Swift handles the warnity we never had to use it.  :o

Swift scopes are made in the USA and I beleive on the better ones they offer, they have german ground lenses. I have been looking at them pretty closely. They are rated quite well. I think because they don't advertise and send gun writer's on hunts, they don't get any mention in magazines.I thought the higher end scopes were priced rather well.

They have been around for a while.  Most popular, I gather, for their target scopes.  Bought a 30-30 contender barrel a few years ago with a Swift 2x pistol scope mounted on it.  Figured I would change it out for a Leupold.  Well, about 400 shots later, it is still working fine, with solid adjustments and clear glass.  I have seen "big name" scopes that didn't hold up as well.

I have 2 4x pistol scopes only issue a lens cracked on a 6.8 why I don't know contacted them sent it in they sent a new one no problem. I have a 4x12 rifle scope having trouble focusing may be old eyes going to contact them see what they say. I would recommend them they stay adjusted fine one on a 44mag Contender so far no problems.

I think you'll find that Swift Optics haven't been made in the US for many years, I've had many of the Premier rifle scopes, all have been made in Korea, they used to be a US owned company, but were sold a few years ago. I have one of the standard scopes which they now call Reliant, it's a poor scope, wouldn't recommend it, stick with their Premier line.

Several years ago, I did some internet research on Swift scopes.  It was not a brand, cursed or highly recommended by anyone.  Basically, Swift had a decent reputation for making a midrange priced scope, not trying to complete in the low priced or high priced scope market.  So I bought a Swift Premier 6-18x40 AO scope from a company that had this model for $50 or so less than anyone else selling it on the internet.  Mounted it on a centerfire rifle that I would use just for paper shooting.  Its performed well for me.  Glass is not top notch, but more than adequate for my needs, having decent clarity and its elevation/windage adjustments have worked well.  Because of this, within a year I will buy another 2 of the same Swift model scope when it was discontinued and available for an even lower price.  All are on centerfire rifles used just for target shooting and I've no complaint about any of them.  Gent I shoot with on a very regular basis has a few Swift scopes, as well as a fair number of Leupolds, Sightrons, Weavers and etc.  Asked him his opinion of Swift.  He had nothing negative to say about Swift, but neither did he highly recommend the brand.  In short, if he needed a decent scope and didn't want to spend the money needed, lets say for a Leupold, he wouldn't mind buying a Swift.   As someone else wrote......buy a Premier model Swift.

Swift was a U.S. optics company founded back in late 1920s and it is a brand fairly well known for its microscopes used in many high school classrooms.   Not sure when Swift got into making rifle scopes, but can remember it having scopes back in the 1960s.  As another replier wrote, Swift sold off its rifle scope division several years ago.  If you read the info on the current Swift Rifle scope website, it is easy to interpret its info about the glass used in them being U.S.A made Shott7bak glass, to mean, entire scope is made in U.S.  As already mentioned, Swift scopes are made in South Korea, only its glass is made in U.S.   By the way, being shott7bak glass, suggests it is the same glass used/made by Zeiss, but this is just speculation by me.

I like Swift scopes a lot.  Warranty ain't bad either.  Bought a used rifle with a Swift 3x9x32 on it.  I fell during that deer season and had
the rifle slung on my shoulder.  Went down on my back hard and bent the scope that you could see the bend.  Called Swift about repair and told them I was not the orginal owner.  Long story short, they gave me 25% off the purchase of any Swift scope.  Bought a nice
2x7x40 Premier.  After sending them the bar code cut from the box and my receipt, they sent me a check for $43.00!  I thought that was
fair.  Their scopes are super clear and track well when sighting in!

My best friend bought 2 swift scopes about 5 years ago.  Through the years the 1st scope had to be sent back because the tube was bent from the factory.  Swift sent him a new one.  The second one had the adjustment knob for elevation pull right out of the scope.  Swift refused to repair it claiming "abuse" by the owner.  So we got bored and shot a bullet through it to see if a bullet will go though a scope... (It won't).

I've always been really leary of Swift.  My little brother bought a swift scope to mount on his .270 and it took us forever to get the tracking to zero.  So out of the 3 swift scopes i've ever dealt with 3 were defective or of poor quality.  Now their higher end of scopes I hear is solid nowadays, but I would still stick w/ bushnell, nikon or burris.

Swift scopes are made in Korea at least the earlier ones until 5 or six years ago.  I used Swift optics until about 6 yrs. ago.  Swift changed hands and is not the company of old.  I had been using Swift products and were localy touted as over the counter warrenty.  The last Swift scope I purchased (4x12x40 AO) died after about 20 shots on a 257 wby.  I boxed it up and sent to the address in Dorchester Mass. or where ever it was in the instructions. and about 3 weeks later I got the scope back and a letter saying there was no such address.  I call the dealer (a large mail order company) and they said Swft has changed hands and gave me a phone number in California.  I finally ended up giving the scope away after such a hard time dealing with them.  I was not happy with the new owners of the company and won't waste another season fiddling with a Swift product.  I would run SWIFTLY away from them.  I used to have the 2.5x10x50 30 mm and "made in Korea" was clearly stamped on the bottom of the saddle adjustments on the tube. But I never have any trouble at all with that particular older Swift.
