Barrel for Savage 110 LA
« on: May 02, 2006, 12:51:38 PM »
I have an early model Savage 110 LA in 30-06. What barrels can be re-threaded to fit this action?..8mm Mauser?..6.5 Swede?..Rem 700?.. or what?  Thanks, Larry.

The savage has a fairly large shank, and therefor, I doubt that it is prudent to rethread the barrels mentioned. I am not by any means an authority tho, and If you like I can go and look it up... Midway usa has savage threaded barrels in stock and advertised regularly... If you need more detail LMK.  MV

Any barrel can be made to fit if there is enough meat there to fit properly. I put a Remington heavy barrel on my Savage action, just cut off the threaded shank and rethread for the Savage. BTW, be careful with Savage threads. They measure 1.055" across the tops, but if you measure the pitch diameter over wires it's really a 1.062X20. I cut mine to a 1.062 major and to the same pitch diameter and it fit a lot better than a factory Savage barrel.

I believe Racepres was referring to the Adams and Bennet barrels which are designed to fit the LA receiver. They come in a variety of calibers and most are already blued. I have been toying with the idea of converting a 110 in 30-06 to 35 Whelen but have not gotten around to doing it, in part since my 110 shoots so darned well as-is.
