Knight muzzle loader help
« on: September 26, 2011, 05:26:11 AM »
Fairly new to muzzle loading and would appreaciate a little help. Just picked up a Knight bighorn in .50 cal.
Will be hunting elk in Washington state. We may use sabots and jacked projectile.

What would be a good load to start with? any comments about various brands of powder would be helpful also. (save me from buying a can of each)

Thanks, Terry

what type of ignition do you have 209 or #11 if 209 100 gr of 777 wil be a good starting point all of my guns will shoot hornady xtps 240 gr or 300 gr very well with 100 gr of 777 pellets or powder i can tighten my group if i use loose powder but i find 2 pellets to be easy for hunting and reloading in the woods

I bought a Knight Disc new in '99...My pet loads are: 300gr Barnes MZ and 100grs Goex FFF or Pyrodex R-S...85grs Goex FFF and a 250gr  SST/Shockwave...My current load is 80grs Goex FFF and a .430 Hornady 300gr XTP...

If you can't get Goex, Pyrodex will work as well...I prefer loose as you can then select a projectile and adjust the powder charge to get the best group...

Anything from 80-100grs is plenty for deer...
