enfield bolt heads

I have a few No I MK 4s in my safe that I going to clean up and fire but before I do I want to check the headspace with a no-go. In the event that one or more are off is there a source for numbered bolt heads out there? Iam hoping theyre in spec but you never know ::)

I would try the big 3, Numrich/Gun Parts, SAMCO or SARCO.  Also, cruise the Shotgun News and see if anyone is selling SMLEs and if they are they may also have additional bolt heads.

Thanks Mikey. No luck with Gun Parts but I completely spaced Samco and Sarco, Duh! I'll touch base with them.

If you have a few and one or more is out of head space I would swap the bolts around in case they were oopsed on a prevoius cleaning.
Since the 303 Brit is a rimmed round and head speces on the rim.  I am not sure you are going to have any problems.

AGREED. The chances of having over size chambers are greater than excessive  headspace but if playing musical bolts doesn't correct any issues should they arise it's nice to know where to pick up the parts if needed. Thanx fellas!

0 and 1 can be bought. 2's can be stripped from guns. 3's are worth more than the entire guns in many cases.

Why not just look at the the bolt handles as that's where they were numbered and if the numbers match the action as they should why bother.


If your going to check head space then please at least get the correct gauges and SAAMI are NOT the ones to get as they are incorrect. Why SAAMI has to interfere with he specs of other cartridges is beyond me.

O-1's and 2's are fairly easy to get. #3's are made out unobtanium very hard to get. Think I paid $35 each for the two that I bought from a dealer in Asutralia. And was glad to get them. Might want to try e-bay UK and see what they have and how much they cost. It ain't gonna be pretty. Frank
