Blago Sentenced
« on: December 08, 2011, 02:56:50 AM »
It took three years and almost to the day but Blago was finally sentenced to 14 years.

Some of the callers into the radio station (reported second hand by myself) wanted to know why the investigation did not hold out to get the really big fish but the reply to this was that the investigators were happy with the five that they did get.

I would have liked to seen them get some of the bigger fish. After all, Renfrow (spelling) could be tied in with the one in the countrys high office.

It is still great that they got the arrogant and obnoxious Blago who thought he was untouchable. He gets a Fed prison which is more cushy but has to serve 80% of the sentence because of this.

He will probably serve half of that if Barry doesn't spring him out sooner.

Well Madoff got similar. Much to my surprise they actually have "joints" for Jews. To be fair their should at least be a Muslim section with equal perks IMO. All the rest of the religion or ethnic groups must mingle and play nice. Who "da thunked" that??

I feel bad for the daughters. These jerks never stop to think about what all their shenanigans are going to do to the rest of the family. Don't get me wrong, Rod has it coming for sure, but I still feel bad for the girls.

Following the sentancing Walter Jacobson wrote a piece on how effective a deterrent prison sentances are. In the article he named the number of IL politicans sent to prison in the last 70 years or so, and the list was long. Four Governors, two Congressmen, and probably about 1/2 a dozen Alderman.
It was an interesting read to say the least. Walter concluded that prison is no deterrent whatsoever, and I have to agree with him.
The problem with IL corruption is it's so deep seated, it's part of the culture. Just as a chimney sweep will inevitable end up covered in soot, so will an IL politician end up dirty.
I feel sorry for the decent, hardworking people of IL that have to support these thugs.

Certainly a possiility??? They were close. Could it be that someone in very high places could of been implicated, if this investigation had gone on?

Remember in Federal prison they get free 200 channel TV. Free health and dental care. Free lasik surgery or sex change if they desire it.   3 meals and a cot.  Better of than lots of folks.

I think that "someone in very high place" quickly partitioned himself off by publically suggesting that the Gov resign his post instead of remaining quiet. This was probably the best thing that he could have done to try and protect himself. The mayor sure did go quiet though...I wish they could have got them all.
