Still a Little Curious

I bought a never fired 22-250 a couple months ago and asked about it not wanting to open after firing. I shot a few Win White Box FACTORY rounds. It seems I was loading them TOO HOT. So I loaded a few today with Trail Boss 10 gr.
Question is, after the shot is there always a fair sized gap between barrel and frame and seems you can see the firing pin with the action closed? I don't have access to any of my other Handis for another week or so. I never checked any of those as they opened OK and seemed to shoot and hit what I aimed at. This is the only 22-250 I've shot in a Handi. Maybe running a bit HOT at about 1800-2000 FPS. Wondering if the gap after the shot is normal. Never thought to look before. Thanks for any help on this.

I don't THINK you should see the firing pin, or anything else inside the action, when it is closed.  At least, I can't on mine .  Okay, if it was never fired, factory new it should not have this problem.  If someone changed barrels on it there could be a gap which you will need to fix (see the FAQs).  Check the number on the underlug of the barrel to see if it matches the last three of the frame serial number.  If it does, you should be able to get the factory to fix it (assuming it's NEF, not an old Harrington & Richardson).  If the numbers don't match you have a fitting job to do.

I agree with WH, sounds sloppy to me. When you close it up, can you wiggle the barrel any? I would see what size filler gauge you can fit between the lock up. After the barrel is locked up you shouldn't ever be able to see the firing pin between the frame and barrel. If it's new I would be on the phone with Remington and getting a call tag for them to pick it up on their dime.
1800-2000 FPS as HOT ...the 22-250 is a 4000+fps capable round

Remove the forend first, if the barrel is loose when locked up, it needs to go back to H&R for repair, likely a new barrel.
