Rigby?

Hello all.
 I need some information about a 275 Rigby I recently purchased. I am always concerned about matching serial numbers. The action and floor plate have a four digit number stamped on them (3175) and the bolt only has two numbers. The two numbers on the bolt are the same as the same numbers as the middle two on the other parts (17). Would this configuration mean that the serial numbers are matching?

Can you post pictures? I am not sure about the matching numbers but I would guess if Brithunter sees this he may be of some help.

If it's an old military action and the bolt was heated and bent, it might have distorted the numbers so that some of them don't show up.  I'm gonna guess it's a light sporter, maybe schnaebel, maybe half-round, a little light engraving.  If the bolt looks period-correct it's almost certainly correct.

Rigby applied their own 4 digit number to their rifles usually on the bow of the trigger guard and of course applied their address to the top of the barrel like so:-





Now have you tried contacting Rigby and asking them?


They are usually very helpful.





This is an example of British makers marking although this is on a .256" Mannlicher and not a Rigby notice the number is engraved rather than stamped..


 The 4 digit number is the one used in the makers ledger.


 The Rigby records still exist.

275 Rigby is the British name for the 7x57 Mauser.
