Blackhawk Holster

Greetings:  Just bought a 357 Blackhawk with a 4 5/8 barrel.  Need to buy a nice hunting holster, preferably a chest mount model.  Considering Sourdough Pancake from Simply Rugged, a 1942 Tanker from El Paso Saddlery, a Guides Choice from Diamond D Custom Leather, and a shoulder holster from Mernickle Custom Leather.  The quality seems good on all of these, and the prices are similar.  Hard to get a good feeling about production times.

I have picked up some bad vibes from the internet about the reliability, or perhaps even the existence of, El Paso.  Can anyone advise me on the status of El Paso and/or do you have any comments on the various holsters I am considering.  I DO NOT want to get "involved" with an unreliable company.  I don't have the time or the money.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.  Also interested in any other possible holsters you might suggest.

Might consider the one made by Ruger.  ;)  Has the nice emblem also.

After having tried all the different carry methods for my SA's, I settled on cross draw rigs for all of them as the most comfortable and versatile.   Picture is one for my old model Blackhawk 4 5/8" 357MAG (that also does double duty for the old model Single Six 22MAG in it).   Gent that made this holster and belt no longer does them, but there are lots still out there who can.    High Desert Leather/Tim Start (Midvale, UT) is one you might consider.   Also had a custom cross draw made for my old model Super Bearcat by Leather Creek Holsters/Walt Sippel (Gainsville, GA) that is very high quality work made to order and for very low and reasonable cost.   Walt would get the call if I every need another, nice gent to deal with and fast service.

Gentlemen, I went with the Sourdough Pancake by Simply Rugged.  Fair pricing, good quality, and it gives me the ability for strong side, cross draw and shoulder mount all with one holster and their shoulder strap system.  Thanks for your help.

The El Paso company you refer to , is not El Paso Saddlery Co. that produces the excellent 1942 Tanker model.

I'll go with Ladobe!!!!!!!!
For other then social issues, where I like a high ride strong side holster.
 
For other then that, the cross draw, high ride butt forward wins the prize.
 
It is good to go on a fourwheeler, in the pickup, and in the field.
 
This method of carry keeps the handgun from hitting on a rifle or whatever might be carried on the strong side, plus it is fast to get into action.
 
I like to wear mine well forward, in front of the left hip bone.
 
So, out of the way, and fast to get at, what is not to like.

I think it's the best hunting holster. but that is just me. as you can see the gun is out of your way, if you have a backpack or a rifle over your shoulder. and you can ride .........well just look at them you  will see. But I  love them.

  You will be happy with your S R holster. I have one for a 4 5/8" Blackhawk & it holds very securely. I use a Filson 'double-belt' when I want the most sturdy carry. Like he says on the site, the gun is held very well without any retention straps.
