Broken Remington 700 Bolt stop
« on: January 07, 2004, 04:20:42 PM »
When I fired a Shot from my 270 Mountain Rifle at a Buck last season and went to eject the round, the Bolt came out of the Rifle. Yep it is a broken Remington 700  Bolt stop.
Seems to be a Factory only item and only to Smiths
My question is where can I get one that I don't have to kiss Remingtons butt to get it? Any and all help appreciated. Thanks.

Inspector

Are you sure that the bolt stop is broken?

Perhaps the spring is what broke and thats only $3.20.  Anyhow, see the following link.

    http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=0860z700

The stop is part # 4, and the spring is #7.  The stop pivits on the (part # 5) pin that attaches the rear of the trigger to the action.

Jeff,
Thanks for the response. Yes, it is broken at the pin Hole in the Stop itself, The spring is fine. This is the first time I ever had a problem with a Remington Bolt stop other than replacing a spring. The Gun is Fifteen years old so Remington is not very co-operative, and Gunparts is sold out of them.  :)

Try Brownells and Sarco at the links below..

http://www.brownells.com/

Brownells carries a lot of parts for current man weapons.  Call their techline at 800-741-0015

Tell them the gunnut69 from Gray Beard Outdoors sent you!!
Good luck..  Just as an aside,,  I've never seen a broken bolt stop on a 700 before..  Must have been a really great buck!!

gunnut69,
It was a fair Buck and I'm glad I didn't need a second shot, because when I ejected the fired round, I was quite surprised to have the bolt in My Right hand and the Rifle in my left.
This is the FIRST one I have seen that broke. I have seen bad Springs but never a break. BTW thanks for the Information. :-)

The springs are a pain.  I've even replaced a few with stiffer versions, trying to get a bit more positive action on the bolt stop..  but I've never had a stop itself break.  Og well I suppose everything has or will break eventually..  If they have the part Brownells is usually competative in price but they only handle current stuff.  They do have parts for the Browning A5..  Still while it isn't being made, it should be,....  In any case good luck, and the best to you and yours...
Jerry

PS--congrats on the buck!!!

If you can't find one make one.  This is not a critical part and a piece of mild steel the proper thickness should do.  A hack saw, drill, and file and a vise and an hour or so.

Brownell's part number 100-000-524

The part is an aftermarket part because Remington won't sell to any but an authorized repair center as they consider it part of the trigger.  Cost is pretty high for when you consider all it is is a flat piece of shaped metal with a couple of holes in it, at $30 dealer or $40 retail from Brownell's.
