Ruger Lipsey Bisley Flattop 44 Special

I got one of these and just can't say enough good about it.  It's 4 5/8" and it's reliable, foolishly easy to shoot well, accurate as all heck and loves my reloads.  Hard to beat all that.  Anybody else love these critters?

I bought the 5.5" version. Quality seems to very high. No spitting of lead or lube, no mis-aligned chambers which plagued my other Blackhawks.
The only downside was my trigger had a lot of creep, more than any other revolver I've owned. I took it to Ahlman's gun shop for a trigger job. I told them not to lighten any springs, I don't want a cowboy action gun, I want a trigger I can feel in the dead of winter with gloves on.


Other than the trigger, I think this is the nicest Ruger I've ever owned. Quality seems to be on the rise at Ruger, a nice surprise in this day and age.


I bought a box of 185 grain wadcutters (DBBWC) from Penn and they are sinfully accurate and easy to shoot with a light charge of Clays. I use Hornady SWC's and Universal for a more substantial load.

My best friend got one and like you, he loves it.  His is the 4 5/8" barrel version.  Can't wait till we get together and he let's me try it.

I'm not gonna say I love mine I've not even shot it yet way too hot here to be outside.

Mine is a 5.5" and I have to admit it appears to have the highest level of quality I've seen from Ruger other than my also new and still unfired BH .45 Colt. Both guns are tight and throats seem to be right on at .431" and .452". Trigger on my BH .45 is absolutely the best I've seen from the factory. It's crisp and barely over three pounds. The Bisley was heavier at 4.5 pounds and had some creep making it feel even heavier. I dropped one leg of the spring and it dropped to an even three pounds and now seems as nice as the BH45.

I'm not getting out in the heat we're having (100 the last two days) to find out how they shoot. I'm not dealing well with the heat this year.

ive got a 4 5/8s gun. Ive probably got a couple thousand rounds through it so far and its been an exceptionaly good ruger. Its very accurate and fit and finish seem a small step up for the normal ruger.

I've got the 4 5/8ths bbl, I've put around a 1000 rounds through it so far. The gun shoots really well. I've shot 200 gr. GD, 240 gr. Hornady HP, a bunch of 250 gr. Keiths (Mt. Baldy), and 260 WFN. (MBW)

I got one in 4 5/8" a few months ago and it has become the new 'favorite'. Excellent fit and finish, well balanced, and very accurate with the 'Skeeter load'. I did have a taller sight installed and a pair of the Ruger faux ivory grips. Looks really nice.

Dang am I the only one who didn't get the snub nose barrel? 

I have shot mine now and I think it shoots better than I do. These days my hands shake something terrible and I can't see the iron sights. I picked up a couple pair of +1.25 reading glasses today one pair sunglasses even to see if that will help me to see the sights without blurring the target too much to shoot. I found an old pair of bifocals I used to wear many years ago and the reading portion seems about right but is too low to shoot from the bench so I got the idea for these +1.25 glasses.

Of course fixing it so I can see the sights ain't gonna stop the shakes I have developed. Mom had Parkinson's and dad had alzhimers so I'm quite concerned about my forgetfulness and shakes. I guess what ever is gonna happen is gonna and ain't nuttin can be done about either.

Maybe you will forget you have the shakes! At least keep in it for the fun, even if it means 'bigger' targets. My mom has the dreaded 'Alz' too, and I find Im slipping on stuff about the same age it started with her. Each day has its blessings, though, and I never thought I would make it this long, so life is good!

What kind of loads are you guys using?

In my 5.5" flat top Bisley I'm shooting 5.5 grains of Universal under a swaged 240 LSWC-HP. Should be roughly 850 fps.


Tried the cast 200 LRN-FP's over 4.0 grains Clays, but the gun doesn't seem to like them as much.

I'm shooting 240 gr LSWC with 4.5 grs of Titegroup as range ammo.  Does good.  Dennis
