« on: September 20, 2011, 01:05:21 PM »
Got my new set of 38/55 dies today. I tried some loads using H322 power. Any suggestions as to what other powders to use in the 38/55?

5744 or 2 f black
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

The Lyman 48th uses 5744, I4198, 3031 and I4895 with jacketed bullets, same for cast plus RL7, I've used RL7 for both with excellent results using Lyman 48th 375 Win data(not for use in traditional 38-55 firearms) in both of my H&R 38-55s.

Accurate 1680 kicks things out the end of the barrel pretty fast, if yer lookin for speed.  If you want an easy shootin cast load, try 10.0 gr of Unique under a 250gr cast bullet.  DP

Tim and I are both shooting the same custom 213 gr. bonded bullet loaded hot with RL7 for about 2200 fps.  It's very accurate and flat shooting.  Tim is, as far as I know, still experimenting with it.  It'll be my deer load this season.

Well.....it is a 38-55, and 55 was what fit in the old, original balloon-head cases, now maybe 50ish?

Can't get that much in a 38-55 case.
If using the original length cases you can get 55 with a 250 gr bullet, but with the Winchester length cases 50 is about all that'll fit.

My three picks for powder using a 265gr FPGC are IMR-3031, 2400, and IMR-4198.  Unique works well too but you can only get very light loads with Unique.
