Left-Handed Model 70's
« on: September 25, 2011, 06:06:00 AM »
I have a son who is looking for a Model 70 in left-hand that shoots .338 Win Mag. The online catalog is a little confusing. They made in 2006 a .325 WSM which seems to indicate they don't make it anymore. I don't want a .325 WSM as I believe it will end up on the pile of dead cartridges in a few years. Any idea what Winchester is going to do going forward regarding left handed Model 70's? I know he wants a Supergrade and I'm thinking about the same in a right handed rifle.

If you are looking to find a used one the best bet is to place an ad on the classified section here on GBO.  Want to buys can't be here on a discussion forum.  You can get the list's best guess as to what Winchester is going to do, but with the way things are going I wouldn't bet the farm on it/

Welcome to GBO.

Im also looking for a standard action LH Model 70 classic sporter. The LH production stopped when the New Haven operations stopped. Current Model 70s are produced in VA I belive under the control of FN. Ive read roumors of the possablity of LH rifles coming back on line in the next year or two. Given the current economy Im not going to hold my breath but I give it better than a 50/50 chance.

Used ones are going to be steep, all that I have seen either here the campfire or gunbroker and such are running in the 1K+ range.
Remington model 700 .300WSM, Winchester M-1 Garand 43' .30-06, Inland M-1 Carbine 44' .30 carb, Savage 16LHSS .308Win, Ithaca 16ga, 12ga, 20ga, US&S 43' 1911-A1, S&W 5906, S&W J-frame, among others...

Your best bet here is to put this on the classified ads.  Those that are regulars here know that want to buy ads don't go on the discussion forums, so you can't get answers here.

Good luck.

I had one a few years ago.  A stainless 30-06 with walnut stock. A nice rifle but a bit heavy when all scoped up.  I hunt in the woods, mostly, and would have rather had a Model 70 lefty in the featherweight version. Winchester, though, in their typical marketing wisdom, didn't see fit to make anything for us lefties except for the heavy, classic version.  I didn't want a plink-off-a-bench rifle, I wanted a DEER RIFLE.  Once upon a time, before they really got into bolt action rifles, Winchester knew what a deer rifle was.  If the new Winchester came out with a lefty version of the M70 featherweight in 270 or 30-06 I'd probably save up my pennies, nickels, and dimes and buy one.  I HOPE that in this day and age I'd be able to scrape up enough CHANGE to pay for it though.
