bipod on Handi 223
« on: January 10, 2011, 06:06:21 AM »
Has anyone installed a sling swivel bipod on a Handi 223?  I have read many times that the Handi likes to be shot supported from the hinge area. I have reworked the forearm so it is completely clear of the barrel.
Too cold and too much snow to try a friends bipod.
Any experiences would be helpful

Thanks

We used a light-weight bipod on our 22 Hornet Handi, seemed to work OK.

We had the nylon washer and forend tip spacer/support mods before we attached the bipod.

I do not know where my response to your post went...  But basically with out proper fitting and bedding of your forend I hope you have lots of hair to spare. ;)

It can be done, but its not an easy task, to make a forend mounted bipod work well on a handi or any two piece stock for that matter.

I have a harris bipod on my .223 ultra and i have since i first bought it new.  I shoot this rifle alot and the setup has never stopped me from killing woodchucks at all sorts of ranges.  I even shoot nice groups with my rifle off the bipod.  I havent done any accurizing to it.  Just had the barrel cut down to 18" and i still love it.

These little tripods come with camera threads (1/4" x 20), so they are a direct replacement for the forend screw.

Nice thought IBGP3.  I have been using a thumbscrew that's 1/4-20 to make take down a bit quicker.  Never though to try the tripod though.  hehe
