polishing chamber did not work, whats next???
« on: September 24, 2011, 12:20:19 PM »
hello;

polished the chamber of my handi per instruction found on this site.

fired the rifle 15x yesterday, 4 cases failed to eject.  very possible a small amount of oil was the problem.  still what is next in you all's bag of tricks?

thanks.

Ejector tune in the FAQs... that's assuming you're not shooting hot loads, they'll stick in the best ejector barrel, back off on the load if that's the case.  ;) The chamber and ammo must be clean and dry for good ejection, that applies to solvent after cleaning too. I always wipe the chamber with an alcohol patched mop before I chamber a round after cleaning at the range or before I load a round, that eliminates any problems.

What is the year of the gun, caliber, ammo and conditions?

hello;

thanks for feed back.  manufacture data on rifle is 2001.

using reloads, at starting load data, and resized cases with a small base die (rcbs). in the FAQ there a blub on converting the ejector to an extractor.  how well does this conversion work???

is case design (308win) part of my problem????  does something like a tapered case like a 30/30 do better with ejectors??

thanks again for info.

There are three ejector to extractor conversions in the FAQs, two simply change the ejector to extract only, but don't do anything for sticking brass, only the factory type conversion will help with that which involves modifying the underlug and the ejector and/or adding a factory extractor claw which is longer than an ejector claw.

The 30-30 is a lower pressure chambering, that's the main reason why it works great with the ejector as do all low pressure(rimmed) factory chamberings.

OK couple things... First Caliber.. Your's must be a 308 as SB dies are made for autos and there isn't a 30-30 auto I have seen... ;)
Starting loads are good and most times are lower then what should cause problems. BUT do you have a different powder to try?
What about case length? Are they possibly too long?
For extraction, as Tim mentioned these home conversions will stop brass from flying out of your gun but are NOT a mechanical extraction as the factory guns are. They cannot "power" out a snug case. A couple of mine sometimes require a whack on the side of the barrel to get the shell out. (These are hotter loadings and NOT in all guns)
Is the brass clean and dry? Same for the chamber...clean and dry?
