Found a SR1911
« on: December 30, 2011, 07:39:55 PM »
Was in Frontier Outfitters in Fairbanks yesterday.  Went in looking for a Drawing Permit Supplement.  Walked by the gun counter, and there it was, just jumped out at me.  A new Ruger 1911.  I had been in the store looking for one several times.  The clerk told me when one comes in it's gone by the first person that sees it.  So you can imagine my surprise that one was actually in the counter.  I asked to look at it.  The clerk said "Yea, I just took it out of the box five minutes ago and put it in the counter.  I looked at it, liked it, bought it.   The gun counter manager came out and talked to me while the clerk was doing the paperwork.  He said, "We've yet to have one last two hours".   Stopped back by today.  The manager came out, looked at me and said, You almost got me hung yesterday".  "Ten minutes after you walked out three men showed up all wanting to buy it".  "They had called in and someone told them we had just got one in and had not put it out yet".  "They claim they told the clerk not to put it out, they wanted it".  "Then you come in here and buy it".  I told him they were just too slow.  He laughed.

The gun it real smooth.  A bit tight, but it's new.  Have not shot it yet.  Waiting for the temps to get above 10 below, it's 40 below right now.  Has anyone else seen or bought one?  Rog

I love mine.  I bought it about 6 months ago and have put several thousand rounds through it.  It is more accurate than I can shoot, and hasn't had a FTF or FTE yet.

Funny thing is, my Ruger 1911 has helped Kimber sales.  Three fellows I work with loved my Ruger so much, and since they couldn't find one, ran out and all three bought brand new Kimbers.  Of course now they are singing the praises of Kimbers....  The Kimbers are very nice, but I am not sure they are nice to the tune of double what I paid for my Ruger.

Congratulations and enjoy your new Ruger.

I've seen 'em up here as well.  Walked by the counter and it was just sitting there.  $639 that weekend, but normally $669.  At that time, the shop had 12 of them.  Their second shipment.  Expecting another shipment sometime supposedly.     I mentioned this on another forum and within minutes had PM's and inquiries about the shop.  2 days later, they were sold out.   ;D   No commission.   :(

Up here in Fairbanks Alaska Sportsman's Warehouse says they can't get any in.  They have them on order but none have gotten here.  Frontier Outfitters can only get one at a time.  The fired cartridge in the box said it had been fired Dec 15, 2011.  I bought it Dec 29, 2011.  It had just came in and the clerk put it out five minutes before I saw it.  All the FFLs say they can't get a solid commetment from any of their suppliers for a shipment.  Eventually the demand will slow and the average shopper will be able to find one.

I have friends in other states who were able to get them months ago, but I have yet to find a dealer in my area who's been able to get any, and have seen none at any N.C. gunshows. But I will someday ....

They are nice. I shot a nice Iowa 11 point with mine at 40 yards. It is my carry gun.
