Deer load for Knight LK-93
« on: September 18, 2011, 02:32:42 PM »
I have a Knight LK-93 that I am going to shoot a 240 grain saboted XTP bullet with 2F black powder.
My shots will be less than 100 yards.
Is 70 grains of 2F black  powder enough for an effective deer load?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

it will be a effective load.but with a gun that strong i would gradually work my way up to about 90-100 grns of black with that bullet.if its in good shape.

It's a very light rifle in excellent condition.  It is sighted in with 100 grains of 2f and a 300 grain XTP bullet.  I think the lighter powder charge and bullet will lower the recoil.

My deer load in my Black Diamond XR is 70gr of 3f Swiss under a 250gr .45 cal Hornady XTP in a Harvester crush rib sabot, lit with a musket cap.Velocity is 1550 fps, drop at 150 yards is 8 inches and 22 inches at 200( confirmed not guessed). The 250 XTP is the non-magnum version and is perfect for this velocity. Recoil is mild , which cannot be said for its terminal performance! Back in August I made a 150 yard neck shot on a nice doe and the damage was impressive. With the shorter barrel of your LK93 ( the XR has a 26 inch tube) your velocity might be 100fps or so less. Another 10 grains of powder should make up for it. I have found black powder, specifically Swiss, to be the most accurate propellant in my rifle. Its very consistent in terms of velocity( it a bad day when shot to shot variations get higher than 15 fps) and as you'll be swabbing between shots, fouling is a non-issue. My bear load is the non-mag 300 gr 45 XTP in a crush rib sabot over 90gr of 3f Swiss. 1600 fps and roughly MOA accuracy. the 250/70 load is consistently sub 2 inches for 3 at 100.

I got two Wolverines that like to shot the 260gr knight bullets and supplyed  sabots on top of 90gr's of black powder and 80gr's of T7.

You'll be fine with 70gr...I have a buddy that has the same gun, his load is 75grs and he kills deer with the same bullet...I bought some of those 300s off a guy a few years ago and I'm still using them...I'm shooting a Knight Disc and my load is 80grs FFF Goex...

For some reason most inlines I sight in prefer 75-85grs of loose powder...I used to think more is better but as I get older I find it's not necessary...
