A fuse issue.
« on: September 25, 2011, 05:38:08 AM »
I am working on a website for the South African Miniature Cannon Club. I ask Cannon Miester Colin Hamlinton for a brief history of the club.  Colin doesn't know the meaning of the word  brief.  He sent me a very long email for which I extracted this about fuse safety.

I never liked the idea of the firework fuses and people lighting their own because the fuses were unpredictable and burned at a rate of anything from 2 seconds to 20 seconds and often went out. We had two accidents in rapid succession where the fuses had apparently gone out and when the shooter went to replace what he thought was a dead fuse the gun went off and in both cases the blast from the touch hole hit the person in the face and the powder granules penetrated the skin causing much blood. Fortunately both people involved were wearing spectacles and escaped eye damage. I then introduced the method we use now and we have not had anymore accidents.
