remington solid coppers basically do the same thing. I hit a buck that was quartering to me in the right side of the brisket, with the spin from the rifling it turned both lungs and the heart into jelly he piled up where I shot him. Very devastating.

That does not look like something I would not want to use for any situation.

I've killed one animal with slugs.  I shot a large sow at 50 yards using a remington 12ga 2 3/4" rifled slug.  It was devistating.

Hey Stumpjmpr

Your right slugs are devistating and I am a strong believer in slugs and use them when appropriate.  The slug in the picture is one I would have questions about.

I think that slug was designed to be sold to guys who have to try the new thing.

Nothing against new things and I think that a slug like that represents a lot of thinking and engineering.  That sort of R&D does advance the technology of the shooting sports industry as a whole.  Is that slug better than a traditional slug?  Better than a Lee slug?  I don't know if it kills game any deader, but they are trying.

I use slugs of cheap varieties. Most of our shots are mostly 50 and less. But this one just caught me as odd. Looks like the main body is plastic.

STUMPJMPR,

Stay with the Lyman 525 grain Sabot Shotgun Slug........it is a hardcast slug design with large meplat and fits in a standard trap load hull.  I use them as bacon bombs here in the pineywoods and swamps of Florida.

Interesting concept.... this ain't yer Hardcast type slug.... it is made of steel.   Went to the website and they have some pretty good info on it.

I ran across these on a Bear ammo suppliers site about a week ago I think they were listed as an all-purpose load for home defense or otherwise they only guaranteed accuracy for up to 35yrds, though I think that they were considering non-rifled barrels, However I imagine that out of the right barrel they could do quiet a bit better ballistically speaking, they are Europian (Russian I Think) made and have a heavy steel primer, I've also noticed them as a reload option on a couple of other sites (ammotogo.com), sold as a kind of sabot reload slug mostly in 12 ga if I remember correctly even though they are not a true sabot.  Either way If your gun will shoot them I would say that they would do the damage nessecary for self defenese, hunting, or tree trimming! ;)
Hope I was helpful, Have a good one,
Chad Green

I have some in my self-defense shotgun ammo cache .... check-out this video.  It's not a gimmick.  It is simply new technology that has realized some advances in design.

1st video in water, 2nd video in clay ...

Yes, that was a real actual hole it made in the huge block of wet clay.  And the water jugs were definitely penetrated.  I agree, it's certainly no gimmick after looking at the videos.

Are you guys using the old style Rem copper solids or the newer redesign? The newer ones are more like a regular bullet and are meant to stay together and just expand. The old style would seperate four pellets off of the front and allow the main body to travel through.

Old style...

I like the old style. I shot a doe at about 50 yards. I hit her a bit high. The four pellets flared out from the main would cannel one took out the heart one took out the spine other other 2 took out lung. She dropped in her tracks. As far as I am concerned it is like shooting a slug and buckshot together. If I can not find the old style for my 20 I may try to make my own and load them.

**EDIT** Bear ammo, who would have thunk it.

I looked it up, it has the largest dia of any slug when it opes on contact. It also has 6 pedals that detach and go off to damage in 6 different directions. On the site there are pictures of shots over 50 yards on boar. Interesting looking slug.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
