Should I expect More

Should I be expecting more than 2 shot and the 3rd opening up a little. I understand the first one counts and the second is usually not needed. That being said my first two are usually good but the 3rd opens about an inch. Any recommendations. I have the o ring already or is it to be expected with the hot barrel.

You can usually eliminate the third and subesequent flyers by working on the forend, if it doesn't do it when shooting without the forend, you'll know that's the culprit, fully bedding it usually works, but there are different ways to achieve great accuracy, all are in the FAQs, just depends on how much work you do and what works on your rifle.

I had the same problem with the third shot being a flyer but I learned a little trick to get rid of it. I only shoot two shots.   No problems with the third shot since.

I find the first shot gives me a great one hole group (ok not a group until I add the second shot), its all down hill after that. 
 
I only add the oring and a set screw to the forend and I usually always have 1 flier that brings my group up to 1.25 inch... part may be my rest or the fact that I am no benchrest shooter and can watch my heart beat as the cross hairs move across the target, but I can live with 3 shots at 1.25 inch at 100. It is for hunting and I am ok with that group. None of the deer I shot critiqued my shooting. - so far.

I was at the range today which is usually packed and was empty as there was a misty rain that people didnt want to melt from(My gain). That being said I had my 30-30, 25-06 and 270 handi. Being I was the only one there I just had to much time and after the 2nd shot I had to wait for the barrel to cool. quess I should have brought my .22 for fun time.

The first two shots are good, and then the third opens up 1 inch?

  had the same problem today at the range this gun is going have had no problems with my other handi's.

But does it 'open up an inch' in the same direction every time? If so, and ,say, it goes high/left, then you just compensate low/right an inch; bingo, back in the group.

I'm with Tim, a little forearm work will go a long way on these rifles. I have used the O-ring trick in the past, and it has worked for me before, but I have moved to RTV full length beding on all my Handis. It gives me most consistency.
They are the only rifles I have that aren't floated.

my 22 is sighted for first in the bull from a cold barrel. and that's good enough.
