« on: October 14, 2011, 08:32:10 AM »
Can someone who owns a New Model Blackhawk (not a SS or Super BH or Old Model) take a couple dimensions for me please?

cylinder diameter-

cylinder length -

cylinder opening in frame height -

cylinder opening in frame length (true frame length, not to the rear face of the barrel -

Thanks in advance,
Ed

I can do that for you if my NMBH .357 50th is suitable.

I am not sure that the 50'th models didn't go back to the earlier, smaller 357 frame, as in the Old Model three screws (which I have and am interested in the difference).  Do you have any regular New Models?
No worries if not.

Ruger makes New Model Blackhawks in two sizes.  Large, which includes the Super Blackhawk and Medium which is the same as the Old Model .357's. The 50th Anniv. .357 and some of the recently released "Flattops" are built on the Medium sized receivers.

IIRC, the "protected" rear sight cylinder frame/receiver design, first introduced in late '62/early '63, was originally produced in both sizes but since the introduction of the New Model in 1973 all the "protected sight" cylinder frames are of the Large Size.

The Ruger Vaquero has the same sized receiver as the Large Blackhawks.  The New Vaquero utilizes the smaller, Medium sized receiver.  The "New Vaqueros" are marked New Vaquero.

Confusing? Of course.

I think you've got it Flatgate.
So I am interested in the above dimensions for what you have called the "Large" frame - basically every centerfire blackhawk from 1973 to the recently re-introduced medium frame.
