Tacklebury  take a look at the stock on your Krag then look at this stock, yours screams aftermarket  and whats with the recoil pad,  none of my Krags (3) have pads and don't need them.  I have (2) 1898 full Mil with bayonets and one 1898 carbine, Just picked up another carbine that needs a stock and I can make this stock into a carbine stock easy.

i have a feeling the reason for that is its been rebarreled with a 1903 springfield barrel (it as a band at the end of the barrel where the front sight is..its also 22")

Do you have any reason other then the barrel band to believe it has been rebarreled?   :-\   Like a date behind the front sight?  ???

The reason I'm asking is because the NRA had a large number of Krags redone for sale to members waaaaaay back when!  One of the "modifications" was the installation of on '03 front sight.  Another was the installation of a carbine stock by some contractors.  I'm not sure about the rear sight but that rifle looks a lot like the NRA Krags I've seen.

You might want to look into that before you go restocking and painting that rifle...  ;D

Not so much collectables I just like to shoot them the way they came from the factory.  No frills

If anyone is looking for one of the semi sporterized Kraigs, Howell's Gun Shop in Gray, Maine (online) had one a few days ago for a very resonable price. Also had a couple that apeared to be untouched.
