Muzzle Velocity for Buffalo Classic?
« on: October 02, 2011, 09:59:38 AM »
Using the 325 gr Hornady LEVERevolution, has anyone clocked the velocity on a chrony with a BC? Was wondering what the delta is between the 22" barrel handi and the 32" BC? I assume the published velocity on the box of 2050 fps was done using a 22" or 24" barrel.
Likewise, what does the 100 yd and 200 yd trajectory look like with the BC?

FLS,

I have not run the Hornady 325 LE through a chrony.  I did just plug the information into software the will estimate the velocity change due to change in barrel length.  Program said changing the barrel length from 22" to 32" would increase the velocity 111 FPS.  Folks here have mentioned 100 to 200 FPS increase using the 32" BC barrel over the standard 22" so this guessimate is probably close.  My thinking is that a 5 to 6 percent increase in velocity is not going to flatten the trajectery all that much.

About 100 fps is pretty close.

With handloaded 350gr Hornadys, I got ~150fps more in the BC than in the 22" Handi with two different powders.

Does anybody know what the actual Hornday LE load data is (type of powder and charge weight)?

With the BC barrel at 32" theory would indicate we could get better performance with slower powder?  Four loads found in MD Smith load data use powder listed fastest to slowest one place as:

106 - 2400
139 - 4198
169 - 4895
182 - varget

We got 10" extra here... so shouldn't we get better performance with 4895 vs 2400 max loads at lower pressure?

I guess lighter bullets would benefit from faster powder & heavier with slower?

Be well...
