Respect when it's due
« on: October 02, 2011, 12:26:51 PM »
My wife told me I am getting a little soft around the belly these days. (thats another discussion ;) ) So I was looking around town and saw a small martial arts school and went inside. After talking with the Aikido instructor a bit and filling out his questionaire ( as to exp etc) He said I could join the class and asked if I would wear a white belt until I had earned a black one in his school. No problem I said. I was going to do there version of sparring also. I started with the junior student a teenage girl as she attacked I fended her off and set her gently on the mat. I explained she was off balance and should work on that. A teenage boy with an orange belt was next, I sat him down also and explained flying windmills was not a good attack too many openings. Next was a guy in street clothes ( I found out later he was the mixed martial arts instructor) I asked him to slow down since this was a learning session. He laughed and pressed harder. I made him tap out and explained he was off balance and did not have the control or focus he should have. Next was a brown belt who was pretty indecisive after setting him down I explained attack or don't, you have to be committed in thought and deed to take the upper hand. The Aikido instructor then stepped out and we went back and forth and I let him throw me. I jumped up and attacked immediatley and let him put me down again. I bowed and said thank you for the lesson teacher.
I will go back to this little school it was fun and the teacher did say there were several more students for me to toss around :D . I will wear whatever color of belt he asks. It was alot of fun and hopefully the little school will grow.
A new school means more learning, they do things a bit differently and hanging around with other martial artists is always fun.
