Savage 110 Rebarrel??
« on: November 23, 2011, 08:15:47 AM »
I have a Savage 110 that is chambered in 223. It is a factory job with the blocked magazine etc. This action has a great trigger, scope base, etc already on it.

How hard would it be to replace the barrel with say a 7rem mag ?

I have always heard about how easy it is to rebarrel a Savage but have never seen it broken down and explained.

The bolt would be the  part to check on  . It is a floating head bolt I think ,so it could be just a switch or it might be harder . The other thing , is the action long enough for a 7 mm rem mag ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I think you'll need a bolt head and baffle, magazine, and of course the barrel. Best bet is to ask your questions over here:

I have rebarreled several Savages, but I haven't swapped .223 to 7 mag.

The barrel change would be just a matter of taking off one barrel an screwing on another. The bolt head would also have to be change which is also relitive simple to do. The biggest problem would be the magizine, unless you floor plate it and make it a single shot. To bad your not close, I have a couple of 7mm barrels and would trade you one for your 223 barrel.
