butler creek stock

 hi, i have a 98 mauser in 7.62 nato that i use for deer,i put it in a butler creek stock. it fits very tight, had to do a lot of fitting in barrel chanel to get it in. the barrel is free floated.with the old sporterized military stock it shot very well, but with the new one it shoots terrible. any help would be great. thanks

check your screws. Tight enough of over tighten?
check your magazine box area for pressure.
check your barrel channel.

I've had a rifle or two that I decided to freefloat the barrels on because at the time everybody "said" this was what ya had to do to every rifle. Went from shooting okay to all over the place! Some rifles need a little fore end pressure. On these two, I ended up using a couple of pieces of credit card glued to the stock right at the front of the stock to bring them back to "okay".

thanks for the replies, how tight should the action scews be? i found that the bottom metal was contacting a crossbar in the stock in front of the trigger. havent shot it yet to see if it helped. the rifle shot 2 inch with the old stock and about 10 inch with the new one. thanks
