Has anybody loaded .358 250 gr. bullets in a .38 spl. case an
shot in a single shot for a quite non-surpresser use.
Thinking about TC encore, 16" barrel with fast twist.

With typical pistol twist rates, I don't think you could stabilize it..  8(  I believe twist rate on them is in the 1:16 range, but couldn't find out for sure.  Maybe others who've tried it will chime in.  I know that 195 is the largest common lead and it'll not stabilize in some.  You might try a 170gr. with light load of unique which will be burnt up before the bullet leaves the barrel.  I'd estimate like 3 to 4 gr. range for your barrel.  This way it'll come out running sub-sonic and should be a bit quieter.  ;)

  I tried some .357  240 gr. wadcutters in a 357 Handi rifle loaded in 38 SPL and 357 MAG casings with several different powders and the accuracy was terrible.
  I gave up on them quickly,  But another member here Dinny has loaded some of the same bullets over a small charge of trail boss powder and has gotten very good accuracy from a handi..
 These were cast bullets that were a bore rider type where the base dia. was .357 and the top half of the bullet was .350 with a flat nose.
 The only .358  250 gr. bullets that I have seen are jacketed rifle bullets,  is that what you want to try ?

Look at the whisper cartridges, big subsonic bullet, low powder charge.
Using a TC Encore rifle with 16" barrel, have a .358 rifle barrel blank
chambered with .38 case, cut the throat long to seat bullet at proper
length, headspace on rim.  My experence shows straight sided cases
make much less noise than a case with shoulder. So using a .358 rifle
bullet, say one that you would use for .358 win., shoot it in a barrel
with a 1 to 10 rate of twist. A 250 gr. bullet at 1050 fps. equals what
all these high tech cartridges are trying to do, example .300 whisper,
9mmx39mm,etc. Has anyone tried this?
