Is there a powder that works well with both the 30-06 Springfield and the .308 Winchester? I'm now loading both and would like to be able to stock just one powder if possible and safe. I usually prefer bullets in the 150-165 grain range if that helps with suggestions.

Since you've chosen two of the most common .30 caliber cartridges as far as bullet sizes and powders are concerned, I'd say choose a couple bullets and powders and go for it! You pick the bullet and powder and we'll do our best to find the best loads.

For bullets of 110 to 150 grains try IMR 4064, from 165 to 180 grains try IMR 4350. Only concern I have is with the .308, it doesn't like anything heavier than 165 gr.

The .308 doesn't like anything heavier that 168gr? Hmmmmm . . .

I've got a target sitting right next to me with the center ate out at 100yds.
I have perfected that load for my 7.62mm AR10A4 using Sierra 175gr BTHP Moly Match and RE-15. And that's with a chrome-lined 20" barrel!

The guys at JP Enterprises even recommended the 175gr bullet for the AR10.

Now that's just my experience, but it goes to show there are no absolutes in reloading - as long as you follow safe practices.

I've been looking at data for both rounds using H4895, do any of you have any good/bad things to say about this powder selection? It looks like it's a very versatile powder as well. Am I right in this assumption?

I think you will find that 4064 is close enough to 4895 to accomplish the same tasks, but is much more consistant in performance. I have several pounds of both and use 4895 for plinking and 4064 for bragging and hunting, whether 308 or 30-06. That's two 308's, and four 30-06's. Have also just begun to play with Ramsot TAC, looks promising, but too soon for final word.

I shoot both rounds, and the best universal powder I have found is H380, shoots great in both rounds in my 2 guns and gets pretty good velocity, not top end, but the accuracy more than makes up for it.

I'm using IMR 4064 for jacketed bullets in .30-30, .308 and .30-06. I have been playing with 4895 for cast 180 gr. bullets.
