Dunno, seems to me there was a discussion on this not long ago if you want to try the search for it, but if you have Lee Hornet dies, they'll modify the sizer if you send it to them with a couple fired cases.

JasonF,

You can't use the hornet bullet seater die or hornet neck sizer die on the 22K hornet.  If you have a set of Lee dies you can send them back  and they will modify them to 22k hornet for $15.00 ($10.00 to modify, $5.00 for shipping back).  That is what I did with my Lee hornet dies.  Turn around was like a week and a half, not bad.

Place a loaded 22 hornet round in the K hornet chamber and pull the trigger . It is that simple. 26-t

Yea its kinda neat putting one case in the chamber firing it and it comes out different. As for the dies I just got mine back from Lee. They only modify the 22 hornet collet neck sizing die to k hornet. They said the seating die didn;t require modification. And they only charged me $10.00 including shipping. I havn't loaded any k hornets yet as I have over 400 regular hornets already loaded to fireform. I love my hornet. Enjoy yours.

Hornet brass has a reputation for being fragile, and I tend to crush a case every time I load some.

Does loading get better, worse, or stay the same with the K?

The Lee Collet die is length specific. The 22Hornet Collet die will work on K-Hornet just like the 223Rem Collet die works perfectly on 223AI. On shorter 222Rimmed AI the 223 Collet die only sized the top 1/3 of the neck. The seater should also still work ... I know I've loaded 223AI using the standard 223Rem seater ... now have Lee dies for both and the part number on both seaters is the same.
Cheers...

The key to not messing up Hornet brass is to slow down and feel the neck go into the die.

To add to that, I would load a plain base bullet for the best results. It gives a slightly better seal of pressure and more equal force in all directions.

I've never crushed a Hornet or K-Hornet case.  I guess it's all in technique.

To fire form cases without wasting a bullet, prime, add about 6 grains of fast powder like Red Dot, pack in a some cotton from a cotton ball then pack the rest of the case tightly with rolled oats.   Shoot straight up outdoors.   Birds will clean up the rolled oats and you will have a nicely fire-formed case...

Interesting idea, I'll have to try it. Is that where we get toasted oats from? ;D

Not just birds, but maybe squirrels too... and has anyone tried squirrel chunks with rolled oats (or cornmeal) and deep fried?  ;)
