Can anyone tell me about the Perry 1000 yard shoots.
I would love to go check one out this summer.  Do any of you guys shoot 1000 yards or long range.  I've been wanting to give hunter benchrest a shot.
   Thanks

Howdy and welcome!

The LR phase of Camp Perry highpower is the last part of the National Matches and occurs usually in mid-August BUT we shoot lying in the dirt like God intended! No benchrest furniture here! :)

There are matches for service rifle, any rifle/any sight, any rifle/iron sights, Palma rifle and so on. Nearly any rig can find a slot somewhere in there as long as you can shoot it from prone with a sling on.

FWIW and I realize Ohio is FAR away, I run 1000 yard matches here in Missoula, MT on the Sunday after our 800 agg matches. It's becoming more popular and everyone has a good time - once they get on paper!

Cheers!

The long-range phase at Camp Perry is pretty laid back and actually quite enjoyable.

(3) 20-shot 600 yard matches the first day. A 20-shot iron sight, 1000 yard match on day two (The Leech Cup). A 20-shot scope match at 1000 yards on day three (The Wimbledon Cup). A 45-shot Palma match on the 4th day (800/900/1000 yards with .308). Service rifles (Garand, M1-A, M-16) can be fired in all events if one does not have dedicated long-range rifles.

This competition is open to any NRA member. Be sure to lock up housing early!
