I have a book called " Rebel Private : Front and Rear - William A. Fletcher - Memoirs of a Confederate Soldier " published by Meridian. This is a must read for anyone interested in the Civil War and particularly from a Southerner's viewpoints. It's true and honest which makes it a rare jewel. Imoprtant enough that one of the original copies is held by the Library of Congress. Margaret Mitchell said it was her single most valuable resource of research for Gone With the Wind. What is refreshing is that Fletcher wrote about what he saw with his own eyes. He was at Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville and Chickamagua. He sereved as a foot soldier with Hood's Texans, and as a horseman with Terry's Texas Rangers. ( Hmmmnnn he might of actually served with a couple of my relatives as they too served with Hood. ) He was wounded twice. I highly recomend reading it and think it important enough to merrit it's own post even though there's another thread about Civil War novels.
PS. This is not the book about the Civil War doctor I mentioned in another post. I still haven't found where I put that one as I've tons of books. When I do find it I'll post about it as well.
