45/70 Range Report(s)
« on: October 10, 2011, 07:27:47 PM »
So, just in time for hunting season I got a brand new Barska Euro 30 2.5-10x. Hooked it up with the included rings, and out into the backyard for some zeroing.

Got it zeroed with my 325gr FTX, and then I went to check the group. Lo, and behold but I was shooting all over the place. When I reached down to check my scope, I disovered that the recoil had sheared one of the screws on the scope rings!

Suffice to say, I went out and bought some warne rings, and now I'm shooting .75in at 100 yards, just in time for dear season.

Moral of the story, free scope mounts suck.

Glad you didnt blow through $100 worth of ammo or get ticked at the rifle.
Cheap junk is just cheap junk, regardless of the price.

lol! I watched my brother-in-law blow through a whole box of .30-30 ammo one day before he realized his mounts were loose. Glad to see you caught it in time. ;)

I too like the Warne Zee rings.  They're a little tight getting them on a rail, but one there, they're not going anywhere.  It seems that most of the rings that come with cheap scopes are aluminum junk with screws that strip or shear.
