45-70 in an encore

I just got a 45-70 bbl 16" for my encore.  I've shot some Black hills ( 405gr) loads in it.  I hand load but have no dies yet, what kind of loads can my pistol take?  I don't plan on using hot loads all the time, but would like to try some warm/hot loads just to see what it's like.  I did have a 445sm 10" and hot-rodded it some ( 300gr @ 1950 fps ), I am interested in loads from mild to wild ( if only once ).  I don't want to hurt my gun but also want to explore it's limits. I would thank you for any advice.  Thanks in advance....lost

Encores can take 460 & 500 S&W loads which can approach 65,000 psi and can also take Weatherby loads which approach the same pressure so the Encore should be strong enough to take any published 45-70 data out there.  Usually, extraction will be come a little sticky when a maximum load is approached there.  I stop pushing a load when optimal accuracy has been reached or if any signs of excess pressure are evident including sticky extraction.

I got very hot with it in a SSK 14" 'tender. An Encore can take a nitro express. I have a friend with a 458 lott in a 16" WOW now that is a ride. So a 45-70 govt is no task for her.........What about you? Do you want that kind of ride? Or is this not a handgun your talking about?

Sorry did not imply you wanted that. I was saying if it would take those rounds then the 45-70 is not a problem go as hot as you want. And I was asking if it was a handgun or a rifle..........

It's all good I should have made myself more clear. But your not going to hurt an Encore with the 45-70. It is one of the greatest rounds for a handgun (I think) Not much it will not do. It is just a little ruff on squirrels but it can be down loaded for deer and uploaded for water buffalo. I have even killed a doe with it by shooting her in the hind quarters and did not have to track her. She fell in the spot, I did have to cut her throat. We needed something for the camp pot and that was all I could see of her. So I shot. Broke her down on both sides. I love the round. I just got a 500 mag just to have 1/2" bore. Bigger is better. But I still have my first love the 45-70!!! She will go from mild to wild!!!!!

     I think over the years, I've probably enjoyed my 45-70 barrels more than any other that I've tried ;D .  One of the most FUN things I've done with'em is to shoot a soft cast booolet sitting on top of a case full of black stuff, lit up by a magnum rifle primer 8) .  Might just be as much fun as a guy can have with his clothes on ;) .
