Christian Love and Forgiveness
« on: October 12, 2011, 07:28:39 AM »
"And you also, the friend of my final moment, who would not be aware of what you were doing. Yes, for you also I wish this "thank you"—and this <adieu>—to commend you to the God whose face I see in yours.
And may we find each other, happy "good thieves," in Paradise, if it pleases God, the Father of us both. Amen."

On May 26, 1996 a mother in France opened an envelope containing the Last Testimony of her son, the Abbot of Our Lady of Atlas monastery in Algeria.
Just days before, her son had been beheaded by a terrorist group.

Six other peaceful monks were killed alongside him.
This is his final letter. It is the most powerful response to violence and hatred that I know.

Jesus asked God to "forgive them, for they know not what they do."
what they were doing was, killing the son of God!!!!!!

it's a shame that this man killed, but he chose to go where Christians and Jews are hated.
according to the letter, he saw it coming. why put your momma through that ?
once again, he saw it coming. did he think ALL martyrs got 70 virgins ?
he should have left on the next camel out of there.

I feel for his momma.

The monastery had been there for many, many years.

"...they found the location at Tib-Hirine, 'the gardens', a nineteenth-century English colonial farm. Seven kilometers south of Médéa and at 1100 meters altitude, it commands a magnificent view. In 1938, after four years of hard work, the small group of five pioneers had doubled in number. Some monks, including some survivors from Staouëli, came from Aiguebelle to strengthen the community. During the 1939 war, the community grew to twenty persons. Several monks were mobilized but the monastery was safe. The immediate post-war years saw expansion in numbers and in buildings. The community reached the number of thirty-five persons, including a living link with the past in the person of Fr. Francis d'Assise, who had been a novice at Staouëli and had returned to lay life when the monastery closed in 1904. This progress peaked in the year 1952 when Our Lady of Atlas was raised to the full status of an abbey."

The Catholic monks there weren't interested in martyrdom, "70 virgins", or war.

I realize that. but this new climate is too dangerous for missionarys of any kind.
if a monk is pretty sure he's gonna be killed, I don't think God would mind if he got out of there.
a dead missionary is useless to God.
there is other countries that need ministering to that don't murder Christians.

all my life I made a lot of decisions based on, would it make my momma cry ?

Powerful sentiments.  Forgiveness and love are two things that make Christianity so appealing.
