Sheridan capture gun?
« on: January 31, 2012, 11:28:52 AM »
Larry the Cable Guy was at a big cat sanuary where they used what appeared to be a Sheridan capture gun. I would have like to see more of the gun and less of Larry

You could buy a new one for not too much...

I see the old Crosman 160 rifles and 150 hanguns modified by Cap-Chur come up at auction once in a while. They have rifled barrels.

Here's an interesting article on the inventor. He's holding one of his early guns in the pic, which appears to be based on a rocker-safety Sheridan Blue Streak...

Now if one were so inclined to load one of the .50 caliber blowgun darts
from "Cold Steel" into that! That would be a nasty weapon. I once modified
a Paintball gun to fire them and it would drive them so far into trees that I would have to use pliers
to pull them out.

Were the early paint ball guns and capture guns related?

 Not that I know of.

The earliest paintball gun was the single-shot Nelspot, made by Nelson paint co and marketed to forestry folks for marking trees. Nelson also invented the paintball projectile.

My 1st paintball gun was a Sheridan PGP, which was just their pellet pistol frame with a .68 cal barrel and a 10 shot mag tube on top. IIRC, it was the second (after Nel-Spot) gun to be widely available. I got mine in ~1983, before they had a pump handle. You had to load the balls by twisting and pulling back the bolt at the rear. I later had my PGP modified by Tim McMurray; he invented the drop tube magazine & pump handle for it when he was a contract designer for Sheridan.

Nelspot 007 left many a bruises on me during those early years.
we trained with them a bit at General Werbell's place in powder springs Ga.
they would leave a knot the size of a golf ball where they hit.
