I Have a Game Leg And Need Advice On Climber Stand Please
« on: December 02, 2011, 01:41:25 PM »
About ten years ago I got Gangreen (I don't how to spell it), in my right leg. I lost forty percent of muscle and fifteen percent of the nerves in the calf portion, I can walk but I limp. Since then I have used blinds and latter stands, but the only areas availible that I can hunt are scrub which anyone knows that have hunted these areas are as thick as a solid wall at times with few open areas. My son has been uses a climber and has great results. In the scrub you have to follow dim trails until there is finally an opening that you can get at least a 25 to 50 yard shot. Well today I found one of my son's climbers, a $ 200.00 Real Tree that you sit on and then pull up the bottom portion. I tried it and could not power up the lower part. The worst part was trying to get on the lower part, but I finally did it. Got up about 5 feet and just as I was sittin down the lower section let go but it was tied to the seat, and I had on a harness. I attempted this 3 more time and just gave up. I love hunting inclimber stands and my question is are there any climbers availible that are somewhat easier to use? I don't care about the cost and I only want to go 15 to 20 feet up. The trees I use are either palm or pine trees. THANKS Hawkenman

I use the ol man grand vision climber.  Been using it for years and love it.  I have the bar in up position not down as seen in most of the pictures.  You sit on the seat lean against the bar put your feet in the straps, tilt the base and lift.  I think you might be able to inch your way up the tree if you take your time.  I have spent all day in this stand as I don't like to come down unless it gets dark or I get my deer.

Good luck,

With most climbing stands you are asking for a major injury climbing a palm tree I'd think. Pines are fine and perhaps the best to climb. With your injury I'd suggest you forget climbing stands. I've given them up and suggest you do as well.

I think a ground pop up blind my be a better option.  Same or less weight , little or not rish of falling out
The ground blind hids movement hides you and keep you warm and out of any rain and can be staked down and left in your favorite spot for a while.  Orange tape can be put around it for safety and taken down.
They are Camo and hide well in the woods with multiple windows it can be set up on the intersecton of game trails and you can clear brush to near by trails.
