How do I put my digital pictures on my computer and the web?
« on: December 31, 2002, 08:30:59 AM »
My wife and I received a Canon A40 digital camera for Christmas, primarily for sending baby pics over the web (the first one is coming in May).  I have alterior motives for this camera, such as posting hunting pics and pics of my 1973 fully restored Suburban.  I have no idea how to put the pics on my computer or on the web, please help.
Sincerely,
Selmer

The camera came with a USB cable and probably software. Load the software on your computer, connect the small end of the USB cable to your camera and the large end to a free USB port on your computer. The camera, in addition to having to be powered on, may have to be in a given mode in order to talk to the computer. You'll have to get that from the manual or guess.

With most of these types of devices the camera then shows up as another device such as 'h: removable disk'. You can then use Windows Explorer to open the folders on this device and then drop and drag as you would any other file. You might have to go down a few folders to find your pictures.

Another option since your camera uses CF ( compact flash ) is to buy an inexpensive CF reader $30 ~ $50 to connect to your computers USB port. This likewise has software whiich will make the CF look like a disk drive when it is plugged into the reader. This is my preferred method for transferring pics off of my camera. Just pop the CF out of the camera and into the reader.

For putting up pics on the internet you should go to your ISPs website for instructions on how to do this. If they give you webspace then they have a procedure they want you to use to upload stuff to them and this varies from one to another. If they don't give you space then you'll have to go to another free or paid provider that does.
