Model 12 History

Any Model 12 buffs out there that can give me a history lesson?
In what years was Nickle steel used and when did Winchester proof steel start? Or were they both made at the same time?
In what years was the 28 gauge made and how many were made and in what different grades?

 I have a nickle steel model 12. Mine is at least 80 years old. I did an on line search and about all i came up with is they were first made in 1912 in nickle steel. Be interesting to hear some answers to this.

I posted this question on another fourm and received an answer.
 
Nickle steel was used from the first gun made untill 1931 when Winchester Proof Steel, which was developed for the model 21 double barreled shotgun, replaced it on all the Winchester firearms.
