Just a reminder, 454424 was NOT what EK intended the bullet to be.  He wanted a heavier bullet and was angry when Lyman shortened his bullet and produced it weighing only 255 grains.  What he wanted was similar to the RCBS 45-270.

Sorry, should have said slightly longer nose on the former, not the later, but I never said the 238 gn swc and the 250 gn rn were the same.  I said the only real difference between the 423 and the 424 is the slightly longer nose on the later.

The proportions aren't compatible, from what I've seen. The longer nose of the 250 gr looks like it would make the overall cartridge length a bit long for some autoloaders. I do believe this was the reason for the 238 gr in the first place.

Interesting article on Keith designed SWC bullets.

From what I read, 454423 was designed before 454424.

Hmmm... I could have sworn that I read in Elmers writings that the 250 gr came first. I'll have to see if I can find that material again. It's been a while since I've seen it.
