I fired my GPR .54 on a chrony today. It read 1700 ft. per second. That was with 81 grains of triple seven in 3f grade. Is there a table or formula that will give you the 100 yd. velocity and energy? I thought Sam might have put it in the Black Powder hand book. But no such luck. If anyone knows I would appreciate your help.

If yore a "good'nuff shot", and can shoot thru the "screens" of yore chrony at 100 yards,... the "energy" is easy to figure!!

Velocity times velocity, divided by 7000, devided by 64.32, times "bullet weight",..... will equal "FPE"!!

Sam's Black Powder loading manual has something like what you might want.

At the back of the book he lists several loads for several different rifles. He lists the muzzle velocities and KEs, and the 100 yd velocities and KEs.

I can look it up for ya.

I'll assume you are using a 225 to 230 grain roundball? Let me know if you are vastly different from this.

I am shooting .530 round Balls. They are suppose to be 225 grains I think.

If you can find a copy, Lyman's Black Powder Handbook has what you need in the back of the book for both round ball and the older style slugs.

Hell Rollingb at a 100 yds I couldn't hit the chrony unless I tried to shoot through those screens. Then I probly could kill a chrony every shot. However not knowing the game laws on chrony I shall defer. Wouldn't want to get caught illegal you know!

Sam's Black Powder Loading Manual lists a 225 grain ball (.530) starting at 1699 fps and dropping to 1019 fps at 100 yards. That's about 518 ft-lbs of KE at 100 yards.
